A m\u00e3e de Martinho era escrava e seu pai, Jo\u00e3o de Porres era espanhol, por isso S\u00e3o Martinho foi batizado de &#8220;Martin de Porres&#8221;, com sobrenome espanhol. Ele comprou a liberdade da mulher e registrou as crian\u00e7as. Martinho e a irm\u00e3 tinham professores e aprenderam a ler.
