{"id":19455,"date":"2019-05-08T01:01:51","date_gmt":"2019-05-08T06:01:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.cancaonova.com\/catholicismanew\/?p=19455"},"modified":"2019-05-06T19:17:13","modified_gmt":"2019-05-07T00:17:13","slug":"being-humble-does-not-mean-being-smaller","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.cancaonova.com\/catholicismanew\/2019\/05\/08\/being-humble-does-not-mean-being-smaller\/","title":{"rendered":"Being Humble Does Not Mean Being Smaller"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"notranslate\"> We live in a society that has a great need to listen again to the gospel message about humility.<\/span> <span class=\"notranslate\"> The race to occupy the first places, perhaps crushing the heads of others, unbridled competition, and other expressions of imbalance, all originated in pride, are attitudes, on the one hand, despised and on the other, unfortunately, followed.<\/span> <span class=\"notranslate\"> The Gospel has social strength when it speaks of humility and modesty: &#8220;After washing the disciples&#8217; feet, Jesus put on the robe and went back to his place&#8221;.<\/span> <span class=\"notranslate\"> He said to the disciples, &#8220;Do you understand what I have done to you?<\/span> <span class=\"notranslate\"> You call me Master and Lord;<\/span> <span class=\"notranslate\"> and ye say well, for I am.<\/span> <span class=\"notranslate\"> If I, the Lord and Master, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another&#8217;s feet &#8220;(Jn 13: 12-14).<\/span> <span class=\"notranslate\"> Such a spirit of service is intended to ferment <a href=\"https:\/\/translate.googleusercontent.com\/translate_c?depth=1&amp;rurl=translate.google.com&amp;sl=pt-BR&amp;sp=nmt4&amp;tl=en&amp;u=https:\/\/formacao.cancaonova.com\/atualidade\/sociedade\/via-da-misericordia\/&amp;xid=17259,15700021,15700186,15700191,15700253,15700256,15700259&amp;usg=ALkJrhhGXIfvVlcplo0nO2-ntYgJwLvWiA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social relations<\/a> with sound realism and courage to establish new parameters in human relationships.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" id=\"attachment_125771\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"750\" height=\"563\" class=\"wp-image-125771\" alt=\"Being humble does not mean being smaller\" src=\"https:\/\/img.cancaonova.com\/cnimages\/canais\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2010\/09\/formacao_ser-humilde-nao-significa-ser-menor-768x576.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span class=\"notranslate\"> Illustrative image: by Getty Images: South_agency<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span class=\"notranslate\"> In times of intense competition for political office, it may seem strange to speak of humility, for the order of the day is to show one&#8217;s own qualities to the detriment of &#8220;the other side&#8221; behavior.<\/span> <span class=\"notranslate\"> The Christian has the courage to swim against the current, proposing and experimenting in himself a diverse behavior.<\/span> <span class=\"notranslate\"> The word &#8220;humility&#8221; is related to &#8220;man&#8221; and both derive from &#8220;humus&#8221;, which means &#8220;soil&#8221;, &#8220;fecundity&#8221;.<\/span> <span class=\"notranslate\"> Humble is the one below, close to the ground, and precisely because of this, he risks less to lose his balance.<\/span> <span class=\"notranslate\"> Have firm feet on earth!<\/span> <span class=\"notranslate\"> It is humane to be humble!<\/span> <span class=\"notranslate\"> The humble person does not pretend to be greater or less than he really is.<\/span> <span class=\"notranslate\"> The fecundity of their existence depends on offering themselves, in a spirit of service, to accomplish what is capable in the direction of the good of others.<\/span> <span class=\"notranslate\"> Modesty makes the gifts bestowed upon each one more beautiful.<\/span> <span class=\"notranslate\"> But humility and modesty only combine with the <a href=\"https:\/\/translate.googleusercontent.com\/translate_c?depth=1&amp;rurl=translate.google.com&amp;sl=pt-BR&amp;sp=nmt4&amp;tl=en&amp;u=https:\/\/formacao.cancaonova.com\/series\/virtudes-teologais\/virtudes-teologais-a-virtude-da-caridade-nos-faz-habitacao-de-deus\/&amp;xid=17259,15700021,15700186,15700191,15700253,15700256,15700259&amp;usg=ALkJrhjHAqmxT3st-byEpTabffEYSAgV-g\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">love of charity<\/a> !<\/span> <span class=\"notranslate\"> Whoever chose to live to love in the measure of God&#8217;s love accepts to be support for others with humility, without humiliation.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"notranslate\"> To be humble is not to be smaller, but it is related to love, which is something great<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"notranslate\"> For a parent, humility can be about listening to stories of a child, meeting the other who asks a thousand disconcerting questions, or fecundating with a smile the end of a day.<\/span> <span class=\"notranslate\"> At work, this virtue can mean initiative and creativity.<\/span> <span class=\"notranslate\"> A person will discover, in the capacity for listening, his path of humility.<\/span> <span class=\"notranslate\"> Another, in the challenging field of politics, can lessen the arrogance of many of the speeches and become more realistic and simpler, opening up to the collaboration of others, realistically proposing steps towards more consistent social change.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"notranslate\"> Jesus went to meet everyone.<\/span> <span class=\"notranslate\"> We see Him talking to young and old, publicans and prostitutes, righteous and sinful, or invited to dine at the house of a Pharisee (cf.
