Judeus de várias partes do mundo se reuném hoje em Jerusalém para a “Expiação do Yom Kippur”, a festa do perdão de Deus. Ao redor do “Muro das Lamentações”, Judeus ortodoxos, ultra-ortodoxos e moderados se dirigem para suplicar a indulgência plenária por suas faltas.

No dia 12 de Setembro, o povo hebreu celebrou o primeiro dia do ano 5768. A festa do Yom Kippur acontece 10 dias depois. Assim, iniciam o novo tempo não somente de forma civil, mas também espiritualmente.

Uma frase escrita pelo Rabino Levi no IV sec. A.C, resume a espiritualidade da festa:

“Os Israelitas cometem pecados todo o ano.  Deus disse a eles: Fazei penitência, humilhai-vos e jejuai do primeiro dia do ano ao Kippur e eu vos perdoarei”.

E assim a celebram: na tarde de ontém, ao início do anoitecer, o som do Shofar ressoa na cidade sagrada para as três principais religiões monoteístas, é o início do dia santo. Durante 25 horas, ninguém come ou bebe, nem sequer água. Os comércios, as rádios e as tvs deixam de funcionar; em Jerusalém os piedosos nem mesmo andam de carro, enfim, em todo o país onde se encontra um hebreu, ali está a oração e a penitência.

Segundo a tradição rabínica a festa é atribuida a Moisés, quando após descer do Sinai com as segundas tábuas da Lei, anunciou ao povo que Deus havia perdoado o pecado do bezerro de ouro.

Uma frase caracteriza esse tempo:

 “Que você seja inscrito no Livro da Vida”.

Acredita-se que, na passagem do ano,  o destino da humanidade é registrado por Deus no Livro da Vida. No Yom Kippur, o livro é fechado e lacrado. Um Ano Novo bom e feliz é concedido àqueles que se arrependeram de seus pecados.

Neste dia muitos judeus se vestem de branco e não usam sapatos de couro, em sinal de penitência e desapego.  O que resalta é o Talit um manto religioso em forma de xale feito de seda, lã ou linho tendo em suas extremidades as franjas. Ele é usado como uma cobertura na hora das preces.

A bandeira de Israel é baseada em um Talit tendo uma estrela de David no centro dela.

O dia se encerra quando ao entardecer aparecem três estrelas no céu, assim os fiéis retomam suas atividades normais.

Que todos nós sejamos inscritos no livro da vida.

had the opportunity to familiarize with the situation of the Holy Land. Closing Party of Caritas 40th years started with Holy Mass in the Greek Catholic Patriarchate.

Os 3 dias de encontro foram marcados pelas visitas aos projetos da Cáritas nos territorios palestinos, momentos celebrativos, de partilha e de oração. A celebração de conclusão foi na Igreja Greco Melquita em Jerusalém.
