5000 Media Organizations Present

Washington, DC (webtvcn.com)–5000 media organizations from around the world are here in Washington, DC to cover the Pope’s arrival in Washington, DC. The organizations which range from the US Commercial Networks to local diocesan newspapers will be gathering at the Westin City Center to report on this pastoral visit from the Holy Father.

The major event for today is of course the Pontiff’s arrival at Andrews Air Force Base outside of the US Capital. President George Bush and his wife Laura will greet Pope Benedict as he arrives at Andrews. This is an unusual event for the US president in that greetings are always at the White House, this is the one exception.

Presently, reporters are being credentialed by the Secret Service as they prepare for the Andrews venue.

The Pontiff will remain in Washington until Thursday when he will fly to New York. There he will address the UN and later will celebrate a mass at Yankee Stadium on Sunday.

Presently, about 500 workers are preparing Nationals Stadium for the Pope’s Washington mass which will be celebrated at 10:00 AM EDT tomorrow (Thursday)
