Pope Benedict entered the motorcade with President and Mrs. Bush after speaking a few minutes with them at Andrews Air Force Base. Flanked by a line of military color guard on both sides the Pontiff walked into an awaiting limosine. He did not use the Popemobile as his route was not mapped out ahead of time for waiting faithful due to the security reasons.

He walked down the path back to the tarmac surrounded by Cardinals including Cardinal George. He was led by a smiling Mr. and Mrs. Bush. The cardinals and Archbishop also joined in the  Pontiff in the limo. the Pontiff entered the car which was flanked by color guards bearing large flags from the Vatican and the United States. Again the US Flag was on the left by the the Cardinal’s vehicle. A choice of the American Government in presenting the colors of both nations.

The Pope’s motorcade was surrounded by several security vehicles as he traveled from Andrews to the Vatican Embassy on Massachusetts Ave.
