Whom Do You Serve?

Walk into any Catholic Church and you will see an image of our founder: He is shown as dying on a cross. I know of no other that has such an image of its founder. But what does this image say for us.

Jesus died on the cross and resurrected in His service to humanity. This also reminds us of our service to humanity. If Jesus says that we must pick up our crosses and follow Him, he said that in a way that teaches us our role in giving of ourselves to others. You and I are not here to serve us, we are to serve Christ and His people. Sometimes that is a cross, a painful cross other times it is a great joy. Either way, our service to God and his people is an essential part of our worship. If all we do is what benefits us in the short run and the long run, we are not being Catholic. What are you doing right now and what will you do today that makes you different from the “I’ve got mine” crowd? What did you do yesterday that made you a model of that group that you want to change today? These are two questions that we can think of everyday.
