What Has God Designed in Me?

My brothers and sisters, we are in the month of August, and in this month, commonly, we return to pray for various vocations. Today this reminds me of the simplicty of a scene that made me perceive how much God uses many to reveal and communicate his “designs” about us. Upon seeing one of my students drawing, I was watching the movement of his innocent hands and saw that God like a noble artist does not appear to be different to that student. He explained to me: So like that child or even an artist that in the compassion of creativity on the paper from the lines and contours gives life to his drawing, so also is God in the paper of our history, when there He gives life to His project of love.

I have learned and attested with my life that for each one God has a proposal reserved, a drawing of projected love. It is not a simple doodle or sketch, on the contrary, it is a magnificent drawing, and the loving manifestation of a God that has designs over us so like the artist that desires to make his mark, his legacy. I speak like this because it is fascinating to see the beauty hidden in the universe of the words “design” and “drawing”. Both come from the expression “designare”, in latin, and was adapted respectively in English: “design” and Spanish “diseño”.

Designare, that signifies to design, is the bringing your eyes of faith, that movement in which God serves to design in our history a vocation, a mission, a call… Respecting our freedom, He goes forming in us day after day, the features of this design, touching the expressions of His holy designs.

All is very simple and easily understood, over all, when we encounter it in the context of the Letter of St. Paul to the Ephesians, he is declaring that which will be the divine design. According to our Apostle:

“God made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times will have reached their fulfillment—to bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ.

In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will.”(Ef 1, 9-11 NIV).

Well, our reflection is not limited…We would say that which begins here are the first contours of a hidden design in heart of God. It is the going from these difficulties. Already we are able to ask: What God has designed in my history: How much have been the designs that He has reserved? My brother and sister, while we walk to find the answers we remain remembering again from Paul that “God saved us and called us for the Holiness in virtue of his design. (II Tm 1:9)
