The Vocation of Catechist

To be a Catechist is to live the vocation of Baptism. It is through Baptism and much later, through Confirmation that the Catechist is called to announce the Reign of God. Therefore, it is necessary that the Catechist be conscience of the mission to assuming catechizing in the community.

The catechist should always remember that he/she was sent by God and for the community. Remembering this, the catechist will have strength to persevere. It is important also to remember that before evangelizing, the Catechist should allow him/herself to evangelize and to be conscience that his/her example speaks much higher than words.

The Catechist should be faithful to the teachings of the Church, looking always in the Liturgy of the Word of God and in the Eucharist for his/her strength. You should announce Jesus Christ Living, promoter of peace that resurrected and is among us.

The catechist is, before all, a disciple and missionary of Jesus Christ. It is someone that was seduced by Him and that allowed him/herself to be seduced, therefore, seeks to live near Him and intimately with him. The catechist should be open to this encounter with Jesus across the sharing of the Word, in the moments of prayer and of fraternal life.

It takes apostolic zeal of the catechist to be a missionary. We cannot keep for us the treasure that we receive.
