A Light for Your Darkness

When we are sick, we need to take a remedy to heal us, when we are thirsty, our greatest desire is to drink water to satisfy us. When we are hungry, we look for something to eat and calm our hunger. When we are tired, we look for a place to rest. When we are sleepy at work, we long for night to arrive to go to bed and have a sweet dream, when we are sad, we look for counsel, when we are happy we look for someone with whom to share our happiness.

You would find an infinity of examples of needs that we humans have and how we satisfy them. It we go through the spiritual field here we would be able to talk of such gaps and needs that we have of all the thirst and hunger we have for God and the many times that we want to satisfy it with things of the world. It serves nothing to want to drink water when I am dying of hunger, this of course is not going to resolve anything and still could hurt me. OF the same form when we have hunger for God, when we feel an emptiness inside of us, the nourishment of the world does nothing for us. It is not going to satisfy us! And the feeling of emptiness will increase! It is therefore that today I want to present to you a true meal, an eternal food taht satisfies and hunger does not return, a substantial food: The Word of God!

“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light for my path.”(Ps, 119: 105)

The word has been in my life, strength, counsel, joy, peace, realization, food. And as the Psalm says has been a “light for my feet”, especially in the dark nights of my life, in the tests, when I do not see an exit to all that I was living, the Word always gives me this “light” to see which road to walk,  which decision to make, which words to say.“The revelation of your words sheds light, gives understanding to the simple” (Ps 119: 130)

What are the situations that you life Today? Is where you put your hope making you so sad? Put your hope in the Lord, put your joy in God, put your confidence in His Word. If He promises you something, He is faithful to complete it! “Those who fear you rejoice to see me, because I hope in your word.” (Ps118: 74)

Already I lived many situations in which also I lost hope. And why did this happen? Because easily forgotten the Word of God gives me in each situation Let us remember here the Parable of the sower: this seed is the Word of god sowed in our hearts. “The seed sown on rocky ground is the one who hears the word and receives it at once with joy. But he has no root and lasts only for a time. When some tribulation or persecution comes because of the word, he immediately falls away.”(Mt 13, 21) And why do we succumb? Because we forget the many promises of God in his Word such words of hope, of love, of counsel. God is always with us, and can be heard in his word. I remember the words of Fr. José Augusto, priest of the New Song Community, in one of his homilies…”Who has the word of God in his heart does not despair.”

Jesus is present in his Word, is is made word and today lives among us in his Word, we see him in the Eucharist, we now that he is present there in body, blood, soul and Divinity, but He wants more, therefore He makes Himself also present in his Word in order that through it we may speak!

The Word of God of gives life and life in abundance, therefore, do not despair, if you want to hear God in that which you are living, that which you are doing, whatever road you follow, if you need light for the darkness you live, if you need to satisfy hunger…seek the Word, there is your answer.
