The Remedy that Frees Us from All Vanity

The bond between the episode of the washing of the feet and the Eucharist is in the fact that in this the Lord “loses” himself completely. Jesus had put aside His divinity coming to us and making himself man with us. Made man he humbled himself and confronted the most infamous of deaths.

In the Eucharist it is as if humbles himself even more and eclipses himself completely: there he does not show His Divinity nor even His humanity. He loses Himself completely and assumes the position of food. In the form and in the appearance of bread and wine, He eclipses Himself totally and makes himself slave to our service.

All this so that we can learn to strip ourselves and free ourselves from all selfishness and presumption. To humble ourselves and to wash the feet of our brothers assuming thus our position as slaves of Jesus.

God Bless You!
