A few days ago, I heard something very interesting on the ways that Satan finds to enter into our lives and the ways he intervenes always with the interest of destroying you.

And one of the ways in which the enemy finds to enter into our life daily is what we can call super spirituality!

A spirituality that lives in a way away from the body, filled with exaggerations and many times without balance.

The wisdom of the fathers of the desert already teaches us that “All excesses come from the demon.”

Therefore, below we will find the teaching from a great man of God, Father Rufus Periera, teaching us how it is that the enemy attacks us through super spirituality.

“Another form of opening to Satan is super spirituality. A religion of the absurd. When you are too religious, a super religious.

“When you pass the time in prayer retreats, in prayer, and do not do, for example make one cup of tea for your spouse.

And therefore, to my mother, all that she did in her life were 3 things:

“-First: She was all the time in the house, caring for us, cooking for us, the best cook in the world for me. And, therefore, today when I remember her meals my mouth begins to water. Her first place was the house, the home.

“-Second: She also always took our homework. All the days we arrived from school, she supervised the work from school to be sure that we did well and our work would be ready for the next day.

“Third: She wanted to have certainty that we may grow in the Catholic Faith with seriousness. She never left the house except to go to Church.

“Then she spent her life with this faith while she cared for the house, cared for the children and it was all that she did.

“And she was very spiritual. But not super spiritual, not what we are calling a spirit of super religiosity.

“Once a sister did a retreat of the renewal with us and when she returned to the convent, she did not go to school to teach the children, she passed all the time in the chapel in prayer. And she said: “The Lord is telling me to spend all my time in the chapel in prayer. Certainly the mother superior remained strong and prevented the sister from participating in the Charismatic Renewal, for this sister was taken by this spirit of super religiosity. The bible said: That the Lord does not want sacrifice but obedience.

“Another sister participated in a Charismatic Renewal retreat and when she returned to the convent called the Mother Superior to her and said that she had a letter to give to her. In the letter she said that Jesus had asked her that she write and give the writing to the mother superior. The letter said: Mother it is necessary that you descend from your pedestal. . .” and the mother superior prohibited the Charismatic Renewal in that convent.

“It is this manner that Satan appears as a spirit of light. At times when I was in my parish in Bombay, people asked me: “We hear that there is a father here who has the power to heal.” And I say: “He is not here, he is in that parish there”…and I send them to another parish there.

“Then it is necessary to be careful with certain practices in which Satan dresses himself as an angel of light.”

This is a great teaching for us, how the enemy dresses himself with “good intentions” in order to scatter us from God’s correct road.

Therefore, all care, all discernment is necessary: even in our spirituality.
