All Want Mercy, but Few Want to Give It

Blessed are the merciful because they will have mercy. The word is smooth, my brothers and sisters. And if the word is like this, will it not be the reality?

Despite the wish of all, they do not act in way that merits receiving it, which is bad. In fact, all want to receive mercy, but few want to give it.

O man, with what courage do you want to ask that which you pretend to give! One must, therefore, give mercy here on the Earth, whomever hopes to receive it in Heaven. Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, already all of us want mercy, we may have it through the patronness of this world, in order that we will be free in the future. There is in Heaven a mercy which arrives through earthly mercy. The Holy Scriptures say this: ‘Lord, In Heaven, you mercy’

What is human mercy? That is of course what you do for the miseries of the poor. And celestial mercy? Certainly it is the forgiveness of sins (cf St. Cesarius of Arles, Bishop)

We ask the Lord, today, the grace to be merciful, principally with the most poor and needed of this grace.

Jesus I trust in You!
