On April 2, 2005, the eve of the 2nd Sunday of Easter,  “Divine Mercy Sunday, Pope John Paul II, man of God and the Church, a simple man of the people, gave his soul to God, after manyphysical  hardships and after almost 27 years as head of the Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

The motto that Cardinal Woytila of Krakow in Poland had chosen was composed of two words “totus tuus” the beginning of a hymn of praise and supplication to the Blessed Virgin Mary, to whom the Pope had dedicated his life and consecrated himself to her.

I’m all yours, O Mary! So he lived and when he suffered the attack that nearly killed him in St Peter’s Square was May 13, Our Lady of Fatima, to whom the Pope attributed “the hand that deflected bullet” for him not die.

How many works and journeys around the world! Pope John Paul II was called “The Pilgrim of God, Pilgrim of Peace.” He visited a large number of countries, peoples and nations, and in all the visits  the first words echo in his homily during the beginning of his pontificate in October 1978: “I opened the door to the Lord” . And he also reinforced “Open the doors, or rather, open wide the doors to the Lord. Do not be afraid of Jesus Christ. “

John Paul II, on his first visit to Brazil, was greeted with the chant: “The blessing, John of God, our people embrace you. You come on a peace mission. Be welcome and bless this people that love you. John of God’s blessing. “ And each time that groups of pilgrims or even we, the Bishops of Brazil in Rome, we sang this refrain, John Paul II stopped and addressed a smile or a kind gesture for that group among many others that greeted him.

In 2000, the year of the Great Jubilee and the Atonement, the Pope invited all to enter the third millennium of the Incarnation and birth of Jesus Christ, with feasts and celebrations, but always to remember the forgiveness, reconciliation with God and with the brothers. He even went to meet the Jews and placed in the wall of the temple in Jerusalem the request asking for forgiveness and reconciliation of the whole Church. He invited the Christian churches and religions to a retreat of peace and devotion in Assisi, putting into practice the documents of Vatican II, of which he was the mainstay and faithful supporter.During his pontificate he invited everyone to live and pursue holiness.

John Paul II was a man of peace and spoke against those who said they made war in the name of God. He said “War never again! I declare on behalf of humanity “ . The only one who could speak in God’s name did not encroach on this right and chose to speak on behalf of the people and the little ones “War never again.”

On the day of his burial in Rome there was a crowd  of more than four million people from all over the world. It was a beautiful and unusual abundance of many young people at the burial of the old pope.

In front of St. Peter’s Basilica, around the body of John Paul II, the Bishops, priests, religious and many authorities of many many countries. He also in his death, brought together with him the rulers or representatives of countries that were in conflict. the dead Pope yet spoke and taught peace.

The people cheered “Santo Subito”. That he may be declared a Saint now. Holy Immediately.

The cardinal who presided on April 8, 2005 Solemn Funeral Mass, Joseph Ratzinger was elected the successor of John Paul II with the name Benedict XVI, and it was he will, that heard the cry of the people, “Santo Subito” , which on this Divine Mercy Sunday, May 1, 2011, Day of the Worker, the Bishop of the Holy Church, Pope John Paul II, will be declared beatified.

And we are happy and sincere, in the truth of our faith, we will echo around the world:Blessed John Paul II, Pray for us.

Amen! Hallelujah!
