To Be a Missionary

Many people can think of being a missionary one must leave the home country, the birth nation to experience the mission in another reality. Although, no longer. For to be a missionary is to go very far from the concepts that we know.

In Christianity, the missionaries have an important significance. The apostles were the first Christian missionaries. Therefore, each Christian is called to be a missionary. Many are called to a particular vocation in service of the Church as is the case of the priest, the consecrated in religious congregations, as also in the New Communities and in Ecclesial Movements.

Perhaps, you were not called to be consecrated to a community, but you are called to be a missionary in the reality in which you find yourself. In school, in family, in work. Where there are persons, there exists an opportunity of exercising our missionary call.

How many youth can testify to their beautiful work with other youth in the parishes, in university prayer groups. The missionary is called before all and above all to announce the Gospel from his experience with the resurrected one.

In Canção Nova we learn that no one gives what he does not have. If you desire to bring God to persons, it is necessary in the first place to be with God. No matter how small my work may be, it is still part of our mission.

You who are married need to assume with your spouse that your marriage is the primary mission. The mission to educate your children in the faith.

The Church is anxious for Christians that they may be disciples and missionaries as proposed in the Documents of Aparecida. Men and Women capable of testifying with their own life, the news of the Gospel.

Benedict XVI in prayer of the Angelus the 29th of April asked all the Church that they may pray for all the youth that they may be attentive to the voice of God that speaks interiorly in their hears and calls them to turn from all and to serve Him.

“We are distracted with so many things, at times superficial voices; and afterwards we are afraid of healing the voice of the Lord, because we think that He can take away our freedom”

To listen to the Lord it is necessary to be intimate with the Word of God, seeking in in the Eucharist. The message of God is indispensable for our life, for us to realize as person and that we may have peace, joy, happiness and that our numbers may grow and thus discover our missionary being.

That after reading this you may be able to be silent and be able to hear the Lord who calls you. Before this reflection and with the questions that you carry in your heart in relation to your vocation in the Church. I propose to you to make a vocational discernment journey.
