Preaching Through Skype

Quincy, MA–Holy Trinity Parish Confirmation students in Quincy had a special event during their confirmation retreat on October 28th. They heard preaching from Brazil. The event using the software program Skype enabled TV Host for the Canção Nova Catholic TV Network in Brazil, Adriano Gonçalves to preach his message to youth of bringing Christ everywhere you are. The author of Santos de Calças Jeans [Saints in Blue Jeans] specializes in preaching to youth about the call to be holy even when we are young. He often refers to Pier Giorgi, a young Italian blessed who he believes is a model for youth to seek holiness in all things. He spoke through a translator. The event was a prototype for future events, it was not without its bugs mostly in getting the best sound, but it clearly showed that parishes can access the universal nature of the Church on a local level. Adriano also invited the youth to the World Youth Day in Brazil in July many were interested in going. However, finances make that currently difficult

The purpose of the event was also to show the students that their confirmation was important to the whole Church. Each person’s confirmation is just as important to entire Church as it is to each candidate and his or her family.
The program also involved preaching to the youth about the Divine Mercy Devotion from Sister of Divine Mercy from Poland and the United States again demonstrating the universal nature of the Roman Catholic Church and importance of each confirmation to the entire Church.
The day ended with adoration and mass at the Most Blessed Sacrament church one of the two that make up Holy Trinity Parish. Pastor Fr. Robert Carr celebrated and Deacon Bill Maloney preached.
