The day of the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, celebrated on Sunday, 29, became a historical date for the New Song. The decree of the Holy See granting the Definitive Pontifical Recognition  the New Song was signed by the Pontifical Council for the Laity, the Vatican body responsible for the movements and new communities.

In 2008, the community was recognized by the Holy See with a decree common procedure in this type of process. The document was signed on October 12, 2008 , and delivered to Monsignor Jonas Abib at the Vatican on November 3 of that year. Since then, Canção Nova has been waiting for final approval.

Monsignor Jonas says he received the news of the definitive recognition with joy and gratitude. “Gratitude to God and the many people who worked to make this happen. It is now a fact, and we can only say: ‘Thank God.’ “

The co-founder of Canção Nova Community, Luzia Santiago, remembered that last week, Monsignor Jonas received a document that said the proximity of the recognition.
