Many of my Brazilian friends, who may be reading this, may not fully understand that abortion has been legal in the United States for over forty years. It is considered a right and great measures in all levels of law and communication are used in the struggle over the issue. Obviously, as Catholics we believe in life and, therefore, we do not believe in abortion.

Many supporters of abortion fight for it using the techniques of an atheist, communist, community organizer by the name of Saul Alinsky. His techniques are taught at Harvard University among other places. He taught to emulate the Devil to get what you want. Literally, he taught such things as to cheat on elections, to lie and so many other things in order to get what you want. However, I studied Walter Wink, who uses the teachings of St. Paul in his work of addressing issues.

This past week, I was approached by someone representing Planned Parenthood which in the United States is the main abortion provider. It was an interesting conversation and as Walter Wink would teach, I am sure; you want to reach a point where it is not you who does not want to talk to them, you get them to tell you that they do not want to talk to you. Therefore, it turns a conversation around gets them to define their motives and makes them reject you.

This is what I did and this is how it went.

I should note to my Brazilian friends, who have grown up in a country where abortion is not legal, that the conversation that Planned Parenthood has never starts in morality or even biology, but in rights and law.

Planned Parenthood representative (PPR): Do you have a few minutes for women’s reproductive rights?

Me: you would not like what I have to say.

(PPR): Are you not a supporter of Planned Parenthood

Me: No I am not.

(PPR): Well we are here to raise funding for Planned Parenthood so we are only talking with our supporters.

Me: So you are choosing not to talk to me?
(PPR): yes.

So there you go, I got her to reject me. I showed full respect and to be honest she did not act uncivily either, but she made it clear, she was not going to speak with me. Turning her whole mission on its head and making define her purpose and motives openly: she was there just to raise money for Planned Parenthood and just to seek out supporters who would give it to them. When you get them to reject you, then you have accomplished the goal of them turning from you instead of you turning from them. That puts them behind their own wall that they created, which is what you want accomplish.
