When an artist paints a picture, he is taking based on your model until you can put on the screen the image that is before him. That’s what the Father is doing in you what the Holy Spirit is painting on fabric of your being: the image of God.
So until you reach perfection, the Holy Spirit still has a lot to do.
“Since you are elected, sanctified, loved by God, clothe yourselves with the feelings of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience. Forbearing one another, and if anyone has any cause for complaint against another, forgiving another, even as Christ forgave you, do the same, you too And above all these put on love, is a perfect bond (Col 3,12-14)..
You put aside anger, irritation, injury, mischief, filthy language, deceptions, lies. Leave everything aside … and let themselves be transformed. Then clothe yourself with mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, tolerance, forgiveness. And above all, you will be of love, because love is the perfect bond.
The more you put on love, the more perfect will be more in the image of God. Love is necessary; without it there will never be perfection. This is resurrected life. This is life in Christ.
