“This is the voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths'” (Mark 1.1).

We contemplate today the figure of John the Baptist; it is he who prepares the ways of the Lord. He is the one who goes ahead as a tractor, the bulldozer, opening roads for the one who will pass. How does he prepares the ways of the Lord? John is the voice, he is not the Word, he is the voice that proclaims the word that is coming. John is the voice that announces the Word of God, who is coming to manifest in our midst!

St. John the Baptist lends his mouth, his tongue and his voice so that the Word of God reaches hearts. Similarly, God needs your voice, needs your kind words, your words are from Him so that the Word from Him comes to hearts.

As St. John was the voice to prepare the hearts for the Lord to come, we must also be the voice of God that His Word will reach many hearts is like saying. “My word is not mine, what is Mine is my voice, I declare that the Word is the eternal Word of God, Christ Jesus our Savior. “

John’s baptism lifts up repentance from sin, repentance and desire for change of life. To go to meet God we need to be touched, every day, by the word “repentance”.
