The Challenge of Being Christian

To be a Christian is to be the wheat among the chaff

monsignor_jonas_preachingThe Lord’s day is getting closer. To say that we are close to this great and glorious day is nothing we should fear. Jesus will come as victor to remove all dirt of this world, He will come to gather those who are His, as explained in the parable of the wheat and tares:

“He that soweth the good seed is the Son of Man; the field is the world; the good seed are the subjects of the kingdom; the weeds are the subjects of the evil one “(Mt 13.37 to 38).

You are a child of the Kingdom, so you are the good seed. You are not the chaff, you are not the son of the evil one. You are a child of God, selected for the Kingdom to come soon. The harvest is the end of time approaching. This is not the end of all things, but the great transformation that God will do.

Just as the wheat sprouted and produced fruit, the weeds also grew and produced its fruit. That is why there is so much evil, violence, corruption and prostitution, so much misery and disease. The fruit of evil has grown and matured. Like those fruits that, when mature, open up and releases its fruits, that’s evil on earth. But it is collapsing, so it shows itself to be haughty, as if it were victorious.

But the wheat has produced its fruit; it is ripe. We arrived at harvest time. Today, they live together, chaff and wheat, so we suffer. But Jesus commanded that no one  pluck up the weeds, for wheat would be removed as well. It’s hard to be a Christian, to be chosen to be holy in the world where everything drags us, seduces us into corruption. But this is our mission, our challenge .

God bless you!
