Idolatry Takes Our Heart from the Presence of God

May God deliver us from this terrible evil, eternal damnation for letting our hearts be attached to the goods of this world and the act of transforming goods, people, and what we want in idols and put them in the place of God.

“Moses went back to the Lord and said, ‘Ah! this people has sinned a very great sin: they have made for them gods of gold. I beg you to forgive you this guilt ‘”(Exodus 32: 31-32).

Moses was on the sacred mountain and received from the hands of God Himself the Tablets of the Covenant or the Ten Commandments. This prophet descends with a unique joy in his heart to show to the people what the Lord our God had commanded him [the Tablets, the Tablets of life]. However, when Moses comes, what a disappointment to find all his people transgressing, wrapped in orgies and idolatry and, with that his “calm and quiet” temperament leaves him and [Tables of the Law] plays out to be deeply disappointed with his people.

And what was the sin of the people? It was to leave the God who led them and brought them out of slavery in Egypt, who led them by the hand to the Promised Land and then they returned their hearts to other gods. Those people carved with gold, with bronze and metals idols to worship.

Idolatry was a terrible sin that people commited. Let me say to your heart, nothing grieves the heart of God than to leave He who is the true God – to worship Him and turn to Him to construct other idols. This is a grave sin to replace God with the gods of this world!

How many times, is money in our life a true idol. Can anyone say that with money, we get everything we want. On the other hand, we also lose everything we need. Because with it [money] we have all the material that we can seek, with it, but we can also lose everything that is God’s grace in our lives.

We cannot allow money to enslave us, nor to become a god in our life! We can not prostrate ourselves before it. And we know that this happens when it steals our time, when it robs us of God and the strips away direction and the way of the Lord. We serve God less and serve more money more.

May God deliver us from this terrible evil and eternal damnation because we let our hearts be attached to the goods of this world and transform the goods, people and what we have and what we want in idols and put them in the place of God.

Often, like sports, music and many things of this world; but the problem is when we turn the sport into a real idolatry;when we turn to music and people into idols and to call them idols.

Who is of God has no idols. Who is of God have Him as their Lord. We can even have people as a reference because there are good references in sports, music and people who are nice to hear. However, we can not have idols, because any idolatry takes our heart from God’s presence!

God bless you!
