Banner_SiteThree months ago, the Pope Francisco introduced the world to his first encyclical, Laudato Si, punctuating criticism of consumerism and irresponsible development. He brought, in the  message, calls for change and global unification of actions to combat environmental degradation and climate change.

The text published by the Vatican, on 24 May this year, toured the world. The reflection has been the subject of important debates, conferences and studies, through various bodies of society.

Seeking to contribute to these reflections, the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil (CNBB) will promote a study on the Encyclical of Pope Francisco. The event, open to the public, will be at the Centro Cultural de Brasília (CCB), on 19 August, at 7:30 pm. The activity has the support of the CNBB Editions.

According to the Auxiliary Bishop of Brasília and Secretary-General of the Conference, Bishop Leonardo Steiner, the encyclical is a a way the Pope exercises his teaching. “Pope Francis brings an important reflection on the environment and human ecology, showing the necessity of this current reflection on society,” he said.

The title of the Encyclical’s inspiration in the meditations of songs of the creatures of St. Francis of Assisi. “There is a fraternal relationship, not domination. Therefore, the Earth’s sister, but is also a mother, because she takes care of the human being, produces food, being also the place of habitation, “explains Don Leonardo.

For the Bishop, Laudato Si recalls the need for the contribution of each person in the care for the environment. “A simple attitude should start with the separation of waste at home. We can, in this way, give a huge contribution in the care of our home, the environment. That all people can participate actively in the construction of a better world, without not caring for our poor brothers and sisters.”
