The Lord Is Our Aid in Time of Distress

“Get up, take your mat and you” (Jo 5.9). Those were the words of Jesus to that man who for 38 years was by the pool unable to walk.

After so many years ill, the man was full of joy, but had to face criticism of the enemies of Jesus. The Jews said to the man who had been healed: “it’s the Sabbath! Who told you: pick up your bed and walk. (V12). He didn’t even know, because Jesus had disappeared in the crowd.

Soon after, he met Jesus and Our Lord said to him: “Behold, you are healed! Do not sin, lest something worse happen to you “(V14). There, the man understood who Jesus was.

The Lord is a refuge and force, always ready, a help in misery.

“Lord, we ask for your mercy. We are sinners and our brothers and sisters are all sinners. Cure us, Lord! That we may encounter You and be converted. Give us this grace, Jesus. Amen! “
