Let's Have Concern for All

“Verily, I say unto you, never found in Israel someone who had so much faith” (Matthew 8, 10).

Jesus is amazed at the faith of the Roman officer. You see, this man was seen as a pagan, and his responsibility was to take care of the Roman army. He had no Jewish culture, the elements of faith as the Jews had, per se. But he had something fundamental: docility and thirst for God. It made him a man not only good, but open, and thus knew that Jesus was capable of.

One of the officer’s soldiers was sick, in need of care; He knew that with all the money and power, possessions and responsibilities he could not do anything for him.

There’s something that calls my attention: beyond the faith of this man, concern, care, love, affection he has for his employee. Many times, we believe people to be “inferior” unimportant to us; the person who works with us in the company, which is at the cleaners, one who will work at home, they are simple employees. That is the wrong mentality, that worldly mentality.

We need to have concern for all! Whoever has responsibility for someone has to worry about the entire person, worry that she’s OK physically and psychologically. Not that we’re going to solve everybody’s problems, take care of the problems of the people who are around us, but, sometimes, people who work with us are on our side for so long and we pay no attention for what’s wrong with her.

Praise God for the solicitude and the charity which moves the heart of this Roman officer. It’s beautiful because it’s a charity attached to faith; and he knows he can’t do nothing for his employee, but you know that Jesus can, he has power. He heard everything that Jesus did and believed. That’s why he resorted to a gesture of profound humility: “Lord, I am not worthy that you enter in my house, but just one word from you to my employee be healed”.

Confessing his unworthiness and inability, he acknowledges that only God is great, only He can do and what he can do, for that employee. His humility is allied to his faith: “I believe that Jesus can!”.

What are you going to do so that employee is cured is, in fact, the official’s faith, a faith confident, humbling and decisive, to the grace of God to happen.

Sometimes, we find many people who have more faith than people in our religious circles, in our prayer groups from our Church, than we do who we walk in God. Not that it justifies that the person has to be outside the Church. It’s not like that! Because faith is something that comes from the heart; that, in fact, put in God his complete confidence.

It is true that faith leads us to have commitment to God, leads us to seek him with more thirst, more determination. However, what determines our faith is not going or not going to church.

What causes our faith is true is the confidence, the entrance, is to trust truly, in the arms of God and know that only He can. Often, we think we can act without God that is a mistake and a tremendous illusion.

That God will help us to have a true faith and increase it in us, so that we can live in harmony of grace and divine love!

God bless you!
