Children Bring Us Closer to God

We need to take care of our children, so that they are for humanity a sign of the loving presence of God in our midst

“Don’t be afraid, Zacharias, because God heard your plea. Your wife Elizabeth will have a son, and thou shall call his name John “ (Luke 1, 13).

In the liturgy of the word, which comes to us today, this preparation is close to the birthplace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, we are tracking the presence of angels in our midst.

God’s Angels are among us! It is the angel who will announce the birth of Samson, the angel that manifests to  Zachariah to announce the birth of John the Baptist. Of course, the angels aren’t appearing here or there; they appear as signs of extraordinary interventions of God in human history. They are appearances of God in our midst, and we’re surrounded by angels who are in our way!

The angels of God come, in fact, to prepare the Lord’s presence among us. The first thing that the Angel brings is  divine presence: “be not afraid!”. Zechariah was a man of God, deeply fearing him, and hoped for the intervention of the Lord in his life. The wife, as old as he was felt sad about being sterile.

You know, my brothers, all intervention of God in our lives is to conquer our sterility. It is much more than a physical sterility or the inability of someone generating kids.

In the biblical era, especially in earlier periods, [sterility] was seen as a curse, as a negative thing, but when God intervenes in these stories is to, first, to express Your power, to say that nothing is impossible for him to show us what he wants us to produce many fruits.

It is true that having children is a blessing, especially when parents really create to be a blessing, for they are gift and grace of God. It is necessary, before birth, in the conception of children, parents acknowledge that their children are gifts and gift of God. We need to take care of our children, for they are for humanity a sign of loving presence of the Lord in our midst.

The angel coming to announce the birth, is what happens to every woman when she discovers she is pregnant. No matter how much you take home a scare or is a joy, receive your pregnancy as a gift of God. I say again: that a woman who cannot generate a child naturally, is a blessed woman, is happy, because she is open to the gift of life, be it from her or adopting a child, taking care of other children.

What we need to do is take good care of the gifts of God that manifest themselves in our midst! Don’t be afraid, my brothers, on the contrary, have courage and boldness. Jesus was born to save humanity, and we help you also save this humanity when we take care of these children, when we deliver for him, when we deliver our children so that, from the moment of its conception, be blessed, care, are taught to follow the ways of the Lord.

If there’s something very thorough here in the story of Samson or Zachariah, is that his parents were God fearing. God fearing men and women raise children blessed for this world!

God bless you!
