St. Augustine taught that only love is capable of making us stop sinning! Until then, whomever wants to turn from sin for their own growth will advance little. Differently, whomever wants to leave it for  the love of God, will advance, because what is proper to love is to desire, completely, to please whomever one loves.

It is probable that you already have tried many roads and advanced very little for this reason. I remain happy imagining that you can today change your route: loving God is for love and only for love, not displeasing the Lord anymore.
