Fatima, Portugal–The Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, Archbishop Fouad Twal, celebrated Monday evening Monday, 12 the opening Mass of the celebrations of the Fatima apparitions.

The Patriarch, in his homily, said that “the Middle East is in flames” and the geopolitical situation is more than fragile. He asked for prayers for all the inhabitants of the region. “Everywhere you turn, there are wars and rumors of war,” said Archbishop Twal.

Archbishop Twal asked at the Shrine of the Cova da Iria, that those affected comply with international laws and pray for all the inhabitants of the Holy Land: Christians, Jews and Muslims.
“You can help them by praying for them, but also contributing to compliance with the international laws and the real rights of nations, and to return peace to the land of the Prince of Peace,” said Archbishop Fouad.

The patriarch referred to the Pope’s trip to the Holy Land, on 24 to 26 May, noting that he will go as a pilgrim to Jordan, Palestine and Israel. “Let us help the Pope in his mission of grace and peace,” Archbishop Twal asked.

“Take also his example and let us make a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, where are your roots and where was concretized the story of our salvation. I wait for you all with great happiness!” Concluded the patriarch.
