Life Yes, Abortion No

The Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) in paragraph 2270, says: “Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception. From the first moment of its existence, The rights of the person must be recognized in every human being, among which is the inviolable right of every innocent being to life. “ A woman who commits abortion incurs automatic excommunication (latae sententiae) due to the seriousness of sin. It requires the bishop or a priest delegated by him to the competence of the acquittal of the offense that incurred the excommunication [which is done through absolution in the confessional].

So why do women even come to think of an abortion and practice it? “Thousands of women have told us they are afraid of having no where to live, fear of not being able to finish their studies and lose their job,” says the Director of International Education and affectivity and Adolescent Sexuality Program and member of the Pontifical Academy for Life Vatican, Dr. Pilar Virgil.

The society needs to be attentive to the legalization of abortion that runs contrary to the ideals and rights of the family and of the unborn. Any way to legalize abortion in the country will be more of a “steamroller” going over the National Constitution and the human rights agreements signed by Brazil.

From the moment of conception, life wants to be lived in a beautiful, mysterious and miraculous development. As the Psalmist says: “You made the depths of my being and knit me together in my mother’s womb” (Psalm 139.13).

And for those who are in favor of abortion remains the question: “How can you be in favor of abortion if you were already born?”.
