Monsenhor Jonas Abib celebra missa em comemoração aos 35 anos da Fundação João Paulo II

In the freedom we have, we set the example and do not follow the bad inclinations of this world

“Jesus asked, ‘Simon, what do you think: The kings of the earth charge taxes or fees from whom? From the children or from the strangers? Peter answered, ‘Of strangers!’ Then Jesus said, ‘Then the children live in freedom’ “(Matthew 17: 25-26).

When we listen to this Gospel today, the connotation may seem strange, because if, in fact, the children are free, they owe nothing to anyone. We owe nothing to this world, because we are not children of it, we are children of Heaven and we must live in the freedom of children of God. We understand the contrary, we think that “the free” are those who live for the world, do what they want and what they can. It is an illusion and a mistake, for whoever does what he wants, does what he should not, and then he loses himself, and gets corrupted.

God does not deprive us of anything, on the contrary, He gives us the grace to have access to the Kingdom that He has prepared for us, who believe in Him, who are His children and want to live as His children.

The kingdom of God is not deprivation of the world, but it is deprivation of the depravity of the world, of the feeling of wickedness and malice in the world, that we may be kept and preserved from evil to live the good. Then, as children, we can not behave like slaves.

There are people who feel annihilated: “I am of God, what sorrow! Who is of God can not do anything.Who is of God lives deprived of everything. Whoever is of God does not drink, does not smoke. “ But since when is it to drink and smoke is freedom? What we have more are people slaves of the drink, the cigarette and all the evils of this world. Freedom is knowing that we can drink and do not drink; We can smoke, but let’s not smoke. Freedom is the power to make choices.

Freedom is not to surrender, and then we can no longer free ourselves from these evils. We are children, and children are free, and not to scandalize, children do even what they should not do. I will be clear, just as the Word is by telling Peter to throw the hook and open the fish’s mouth to get coins.

Paying taxes is one of the most unjust things in the world that we should not pay, but we pay. And why do we pay? To be examples, lest we cause scandal to the world.

The disciples of Jesus do not follow the orders of the Law. We must be the first to obey the orders and the laws of the world, we must be the first to set an example, to obey the traffic laws, to pay taxes, tolls of life , Fulfill our obligations.

We are free, and in the freedom we have, we set an example. We do not follow the evil inclinations of this world.

God bless you!

The love of God is shed deep into our hearts, and each one of us can plunge into the His peace.

I leave you peace, my peace I give unto you; but not as the world. Don’t let your heart be  bothered or intimidated”(John 14, 27).

The gift of peace is divine and Heavenly, it is a gift from the heart of God. The peace that God gives us is the peace that comes from him; the peace that is pure and is its essence.

Jesus is giving us his peace and not the peace that the world gives us, because world peace may simply be absence of conflicts, wars or something along those lines. Peace is something much deeper, it goes in the intimate part of our soul and our heart, puts us in communion with God and with each other. Peace is the fruit of love, which generates peace in our hearts.

The love of God is shed abroad in our hearts, and each one of us can plunge into the peace of God. We have conflicts? Yes! Don’t we look at the difficulties, problems and situations, but we have a different way of fighting, we are fitted with the gift of peace. We’re not immune to war, we go to war and fight against the enemies of the soul and the heart.

Our medicine, our gun, above all, is the peace that comes from the heart of God, the peace that God gives us and that, above all, does not let our heart be disturb with difficulties, with tribulations and with all the difficult situations that we face in this life. We need to let our hearts find peace in God, curing our afflictions, which contain our troubles, and gives us peace and tranquility for living, evangelizing and love.

We don’t understand tranquility as we didn’t have difficulties, is not contrary to another. Rather, difficulties are being overcome in that peace that comes from the heart of God. I’m not lost in a fog or now do I bow in front of the afflictions and tribulations I face in my life, I bow before the peace of God, before the spirit of God which is given.

It is interesting in acts of the Apostles: we hear of “beig spent by many tribulations to enter the Kingdom of God”. The tribulations we’ve been through in our lifes do not to take our peace; rather, there is much evidence that we learn to live the peace of God even when we are covered in a whirlwind of trouble and tricky situations.

May the peace of God to invade our hearts!

God bless you!

Santa Missa com Monsenhor Jonas Abib

Jesus will be within us when we apply ourselves to live his word

If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my father will love him, and we will come and make him our address” (John 14, 23).

How Beautiful: “If anyone loves me, He will keep my word”. Loving Jesus is not just saying: “Jesus, I love you”, I don’t even need to say this. Loving Jesus is keeping his word, observing it and take it seriously.

We love Jesus when we trust him. And the confidence that we can give him is to keep in our hearts and in our lives everything he taught us how to live, because His words cannot be straws in the wind, because they are important to our lives.

Loving Jesus is loving his commandments, his laws, decrees and all that He teaches us to live. Loving Jesus is to give of myself with all my heart, soul, and with all I am to apply myself in his word.

Don’t ignore the word of God, you are not a simple spectator or hearer of the word, but be the one who listens, meditates, chews on the word and says: “This is Word that I want to live. It is that word that I want to keep. It is the word that I want to live in everything I do and I carry in my life. “

Don’t be simply a listener, but love deeply Jesus, saving and putting into practice his words, putting into your life what he taught us.

If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my father will love him, and we will come.” Where is God? We know that He is in the Church, is in the midst of us, but He will be within us when we apply ourselves to live his word.

Make sure that when you silence your heart and apply yourself to meditate on the word, the Father, Jesus and the spirit are with us. When, in our everyday life, we have to die to ourselves to put into practice the word of Jesus, we are not alone, He is with us, vibrantly with us, inspiring, illuminating us, guarding us and preserving us in the fight against sin. But if I make the choice to live another word, it’s like I was saying: “I don’t want to live with you! I want to live with myself. “

God wants to live, live and walk with us. He walks and lives with us when we keep His Word!

God bless you!

pe_rogerWe need to teach the commandments of God to our neighbor

We must not only observe the commandments, but teach others to live them

“So, who disobey these commandments, no matter how small, and teach others to do the same, is considered the least in the Kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 5, 19).

We want to note two important things in the teaching of Jesus to our hearts today. The first of them is not to disregard the commandments, not relativize the commandments of the law of God, which are ways for our salvation, the route that every Christian, every man and woman of God needs walk to be part of the Kingdom of God. The commandments of the Lord are life for our life!

Don’t take the commandments as prohibitions, or inquisitions, “do this or do that.” Place the commandments of the law of the Lord as life for our life.

Every commandment has the loving presence of God in it, since the first-love is for God above all things-the last, which calls us not to covet anything else. These commandments are divine. What is divine is life, is sacred; is life for our own life. So, I say to you: don’t disregard the commandments of the Lord.

Sometimes, we are accustomed to do one thing, and that thing is wrong, then we say: “The other commandments I keep, but this one …”, and when we say this, we relax and, even more, the heart hardens; so, we start to disregard what is so important, and we can’t let it go. We cannot ignore even one commandment of the Lord.

When we need to review our life, when we need to put it in the light. The first thing we have to look at is how our reflection is for the commandments of the law of the Lord. They are like mirrors that help us to review our relationship with God and with our next. Always look for this mirror, for we are together again, to do this daily examination of conscience, not only when we go to church to confess, but every day, we are together again with these commandments.

The second thing is that we must not only observe the commandments, but teach others how to live them.

If you realize you’re wrong and still failed to correct the error, ask the grace of God to fix it, but never fall, please, on bad teaching what does wrong so that the other also do.

I’m sorry, but there are people who take advantage of everything they do and to consider these dishonest advantages as something honest. In addition to what is wrong, you still want to teach others to do also. Don’t do it, we’re being dishonest with us, with God, with our conscience and morals.

We learn the correct ourselves every day, but let’s not fall into a greater evil, doing wrong and teaching the other to live in error.

God bless you!

Brooklyn Museum - The Pharisees and the Saduccees Come to Tempt Jesus (Les pharisiens et les saducéens viennent pour tenter Jésus) - James Tissot - overallThe heart full of evil is far from God! If we want to be less Pharisees in life, we need to approach God and stop being gossips!

“These people honor me with their lips, but their heart is far from me” (Mark 7: 6).

Dear brothers and sisters, the Pharisees are upset because Jesus and His disciples eat and drink without washing hands. We know that by an oral tradition that we receive from others, which passed from person to person, the Jews do not eat unless they wash their hands without washing cups, pots, copper pots and all the utensils for power; and that there is an excess of rigor to wash their hands and so on.

It exists today in our midst, many people who have an excess of careful cleaning. We all need to be clean, hygienic, but be careful because the excesses seem an obsession! And the obsession with cleanliness is something very terrible because one sees dirt everywhere; for all the places that she looks, it seems there is dirt. And it will create within itself prejudices and misconceptions, she distrusts the cleaning of any glass in any dish.

The Pharisees, described in today’s Gospel, do it with a certain amount of evil. You know those people who do not speak, but think [something against someone]? You know those people who sometimes greet you and always look suspicious, wanting to tell you this or that? Judging you, interpreting according to their concepts and prejudices.

We often do it too! And that risk and danger of being rejected by God, because we honor Him with our lips, praise Him, glorify Him, and bless, then stretch our hands and our tongues to receive the Eucharist, but often our hearts is far from him!

We can not deny it, but even among us, Jesus’ followers, how many times do we let evil grow within us! Evil against others, against situations; we can only look at things from the perspective of evil. So we know that slander is born, accusations, but above all gossip.

Gossip is something for people who have questionable character. It is for those who have no courage or willingness to say what needs to be spoken or are silent when it is necessary. This person is lives creating situations to talk about this or that. Of gossip is born the greatest evils is born misinterpretations, born the labels we play with and create on people. It is no distant comparison, but is very close for helping us to understand that self-righteousnessness leads to gossip. Are the Pharisees who think Jesus. The gossips today think Jesus in another way: they do through their children, siblings, followers and disciples of Him.

So if we want to be less the Pharisees in life, we must not give in to gossips: we need to stop being gossips! And we can not allow this evil, which is called “gossip” or “slander”, a part of our life.

Jesus loved and welcomed everyone, the worst sinners, according to our concepts, but had no way to host the Pharisee who was full of malice or who was gossiping maliciously.

May God purify our hearts! Do not just honor Him with your lips, because our heart is full of evil. This purification is from the Lord.

God bless you!

Let us open ourselves to the grace of the spirit, so that he may act in us and teach us to do the will of the Lord

“And you, who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered, “you are the Messiah, the Son of the living God” (Matthew 16.15).

Jesus praised and exalted Peter’s words: “Happy are you, Simon son of Jonah, because it was not a human being who revealed this, but my father which is in heaven. You are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church ” (cf. Matthew -18 16.17).

Look at that beauty! That it came from the heart of God is not a human thing, it was Peter who really noticed and allows us to see him as the model. Let the divine inspiration show you who Christ. So, he proclaimed, the bottom of his heart, what he saw in the presence of Christ. Others saw the graces, miracles and cures, but not recognized Jesus as the Messiah. Recognized in him a great prophet, an Elias, a John the Baptist, an Envoy of God.

Peter is saying the right thing, he truly recognized really the identity of Jesus: “He is sent. He is the Christ. He is the Messiah! “. Peter speaks that in Spirit, however, there is a problem, because Jesus proclaims all that, exalts Peter and the spirit within the apostle, but says: “don’t tell anyone, because the son of man will suffer, undergo many trials, will be delivered into the hands of men, and die because for our salvation”.

Peter rebukes him: “No! That will never happen to you! “. Jesus gives another answer: “get away from me Satan, because these thoughts are not of God. Now those are thoughts of the flesh “.

You see, in the same Peter, there is the action of the spirit and the flesh, there is the action of what is of God and comes from him, but also that which is not of the Lord, that comes from the human Peter, what’s your human flesh. Because our flesh and our human feeling don’t care about suffering, want to reject any form of cross and suffering.

Let me tell you: thank God, much of what we do and talk, much of what we take to others, is God, and he acts in us and through us.

Like Peter, we also got a lot of “carnal” and human experiences. Many times, they mix with the diabolical and what comes out of us, is not from God. When Jesus says: “get away from me!”, it is meant for Peter, to get rid of what is evil from, what is purely human and not mix it with the grace of God, the direction of grace within Him speaks.

We are and we seek to be disciples of the Lord, we seek to do his will, we must have discernment of the spirit and of grace, so that we may do things that are not just inspired by our human way of thinking but in the grace of God.

It is necessary to resort to divine grace, so that what we do is really of God and divine inspiration in us.

That God may help us not to live in the flesh and not to be guided by it, but to be open to the grace of the spirit, so that He may even act in us and teach us to do the will of the Lord.

God bless you!
